The IC-R20 wide-band, all mode handheld scanner from Icom is the Expert's Scanner. It is loaded with many features such as an ultra fast 100ch/sec scanning speed, 1250 alphanumeric memories, built-in 32MB IC recorder, dualwatch frequency capability. It covers a wacking 0.150 to 3305MHz frequency range, you can listen to FM, AM broadcasts, TV audio, Amateur radio, Marine, Airband, CB and other utility communications. It has a useful bandscope function as well as PC cloning cability. If you are considering a top-of-the-range scanner, then go for the IC-R20.
The IC-R5 is the replacement for the popular IC-R2 with many improvements. These include a built-in ferrite rod antenna, a total of 1250 memory channels. A super wide range of 0.150 to 1309.995MHz in AM, FM and WFM modes, including terrestrial analogue TV. In addition when listeningt to FM broadcast stations there is a choice of using the main antenna or a cable running from the optional earphone. The IC-R5 comes complete with BC-07 UK battery charger, 2x AA rechargeable batteries, FA-S270C antenna, belt clip and handbook.
The IC-R3 full coverage is 495kHz to 2450MHz, and receives not only AM and FM/WFM but also TV (AM or FM). Amateur FM TV coverage is between 900 to 1300MHz and 2250 to 2450MHz. It uses a built-in 2in TFT colour LCD with a selection of multi colour background screens for operation status display, signal strength meter or a simple bandscope.
The IC-R-3 has a lithium-ion battery (BP-206) as standard (charger optional extra) with an operating time more than 2 times that of any other type of battery' or via 3 x AA cells ( Ni-MH). It can also be powered from a 3.6 to 6.3V DC power source or via 12V DC via an optional cigarette lighter cable (CP-18). The BP-206 can be charged simultaneously when 5.5-6.3V DC (more than 1A) is supplied.
