This new version of the Portable Antenna is designed for easy transport. It breaks down into multiple mast sections, a whip section, an air-wound centre loading coil section, and a small base support. No piece is longer than 0.5m (20in) so it will easily fit into most suitcases. The longer the antenna, the greater the radiation resistance and therefore the less impact you have on efficiency due to ground and coil losses.

The MFJ-1922 Digital Screwdriver Antenna Controller is designed to give Up/Down control and digital counter to count turns inside the screwdriver antenna. It features a four digit readout which is calibrated to cover the whole antenna tuning range this assists in quickly tuning the antenna. However, the antenna must have a position sensor installed in it. The MFJ-1922 is easily connected using the colour coded wires, Red and Black for power (12V), green and yellow for motor control, brown and white for the sensor. Some screwdriver antennas operate on 3-4V DC, a dropping resistor is required to bring the voltage down. It is important to read the specifications for your particular Screwdriver antenna before fitting.

The MFJ-1925 is designed to control the Yaesu ATAS 100/120 Screwdriver Antenna. This small unit is an inline switch that gives you up/down control of the ATAS 100 or ATAS 120 antennas. The MFJ-1925 puts DC voltage on the centre conductor of the coax to control the ATAS antenna. It also comes with a power lead and this must be connected to a suitable 12V DC supply, normally available through an accessory socket. When the up/down switch is pressed, the transceiver will transmit a tuning carrier. When the switch is released, the transceiver will return to receive.
WARNING: Reversal of the coax connections could damage your rig.

The MFJ-1925 is designed to control the Yaesu ATAS 100/120 Screwdriver Antenna. This small unit is an inline switch that gives you up/down control of the ATAS 100 or ATAS 120 antennas. The MFJ-1925 puts DC voltage on the centre conductor of the coax to control the ATAS antenna. It also comes with a dedicated control cable for the IC706, and this must be connected to the rear panel of the IC706. When the up/down switch is pressed, the IC706 will transmit 10W CW. When the switch is released, the IC706 will return to the previous mode and power level. The SWR meter on the Icom-706 should be monitored for an acceptable SWR while tuning the ATAS antenna.
WARNING: Reversal of the coax connections could damage your IC706.

The use of this balun allows you to employ ladder line as the main feed and so take advantage of the very low loss that results. The ladder line is attached to the two large insulators on the balun unit and the output fed via 50 Ohm coax cable to the transceiver. The great advantage of this method of feeding is the extremely low losses that result, even with long lengths of balance line.
