The MAT-50 Magnetic Antenna Grounding Sheet is for use with HF mobile antennas, especially those being used with magnetic mounts. Originally, magnetic mounts were used with VHF and UHF antennas and the ground capacity for these frequencies was more than adequate.
To get the best out of an HF mobile antenna mounted this way, reliable capacity to ground (in this case the car chassis) is required. Up to now this has been quite variable especially between makes of cars.
The MAT-50 has been designed to help eliminate troublesome body grounding capacity simply by putting the sheet on a flat area of the steel bodywork. A single sheet will enable HF coverage from 7MHz and two sets of sheets for coverage from 3.5MHz with a suitable HF mobile antenna.
Note that to operate on 50MHz the connecting cable has to be cut to less than 20cm and that 50MHz can not be operated when two sets of sheets are used.
